Líos DaracCouture Photographic Frames Hand Crafted in Ireland from Italian mouldings available exclusively from Darac, Newbliss, Co. Monaghan, Ireland.
Líos Darac is the brand name of our range of photographic frames by Darac, it is also the old Irish/Gaelic name for the village in which we live and work, very aptly it means ‘fort of the oaks’.
Darac, is husband and wife team, Patrick and Lorraine Martin, and some twenty five years ago we started picture framing in London with a high street shop and factory workshop which we successfully carried on for fifteen years, but as with all things, whether it was age or the pull of family and green lands, we returned to our home village and brought our picture framing business back to the very building, an old railway station where Patrick’s father Joe Martin had run a, totally different business yet a similar operational model, the manufacture of an exceptionally high quality Irish product exported around the world. This product was jams and preserves. Along with Antonia his wife and Sir Tyrone Guthrie, in the 1960’s they were exporting pots of jam as far afield as America, Canada, Australia, and of course nearer to home France, Germany and Italy.
Continuing on with those same principals, our core belief is to use only the best quality materials available, whether for a bespoke conservation frame or for one of our Lios Darac photo frames. To that end many years ago we found ourselves travelling to Italy, reputed to be home to some of the world’s finest frame moulding manufacturers. Over the years we formed long standing relations with a number of these artisan manufacturers and now working closely to select mouldings for the quality of their designs and materials used, in particular the sustainability of the woods used. The designs we choose are for their exclusivity and diversity, those which you won’t see on your general high street.
As bespoke framers over the past twenty five years framing, both in London and here in Ireland, we have framed an eclectic mix of items, from an original Monet to a pair of Y Fronts, and for a truly varied selection of customers such as, Ford, Inland Revenue, British Gas, Paramount Pictures, BT, RTE, Parker Pen, Dublin & Shannon Airport, No.10 Downing St., Museums, Hotels, Councils, Churches, Schools, Banks, Credit Unions, Clubs, Photographers, Artists and numerous private clients including TV & movie personalities.
Close to our hearts is our impact on nature, the environment and the wild life that surround our home and business. We have created a wild flower meadow on the old railway line and each year add to the native trees, hedgerows, fruits and berries to preserve and build on the wildlife habitat that has existed here for over one hundred and fifty years.
